This page is part of the Amazon UK associate programme.

This page enables you to buy books over the internet from a large, reputable,"virtual" bookshop, called Amazon UK.

Below are several books related to pets and animals that I have read and found interesting. If you wish to buy one of them, click on the link and you will be taken away from the Pet Gallery to the Amazon UK site to buy the book. On this site you can read about the bookshop and find the answers to some questions you may have about things such as the security of such purchases. Clicking the link on my site does not commit you to a purchase, it simply puts you in a position to buy the book if you wish to add it to your "basket" and then proceed to the page to pay for it.

Please remember to use the "back" button of your browser to return to the Pet Gallery after visiting the book shop.

cover The Dog's Mind (Pelham Dogs)
Bruce Fogel
A fascinating insight into why your dog behaves the way he/she does. Bruce Fogel is a well known expert in animal behaviour. In this very readable book he describes how your dog is one of the pack (your family). He explains what is happening in your dog's mind and describes how what we may regard as irrational behaviour makes perfect sense to you dog.

cover James Herriot's Dog Stories
James Herriot
Wonderful collection of dog stories. James Herriot certainly needs no introduction. His love of animals shows through in all his writing.

cover Absent Friend: Coping with the loss of a treasured pet
Martyn Lee, Laura Lee
The loss of a loved pet is a very traumatic time. This book is written by two people who know what it is like to lose a pet who is a member of the family. It covers many issues, such as euthanasia (When is it time? How it is done? What happens?), disposal of the body, missing pets, memorials. It is heart rending to read but I found it very helpful to have read it when it came to the end of the lives of Sadie and Blaze, our dogs.

Search Dog
Angela Locke
Real life account of life with a Lake District search dog who gladly leaves his warm bed indoors with his owner to search for people missing in the hills. Delightful book that captures the enthusiasm that the dog has for the work.
cover Dogdogs
Elliott Erwitt
Collection of many, many, black and white photographs of dogs taken over several decades and all over the world. Each picture captures the personality of the dog shown.

cover The Dog Listener
Jan Fennell
Looks at domestic dog behaviour by making comparisons with how wolves behave in packs. Gives very sensible and (in my personal experience) very effective advice on how to deal with behaviour problems in a kind and natural way. Even if your dog does not have any behaviour problems it gives an interesting insight into why your dog behaves the way he/she does.

cover How to Speak Dog: Mastering the Art of Dog-Human Communication
Stanley Coren
Not as daft as the title suggests. Ever wondered if your dog is really trying to kiss you when he licks your face? Find out what he/she really means by this and all sorts of other behaviour, gestures, and body language and even barks and other sounds.
